Resumen
This chapter highlights the importance of understanding the relationship between sedentary behaviour, mental health complications, and psychosocial outcomes in older adults and special populations, including individuals with chronic conditions and disabilities. The ageing process brings physiological, psychological, and social changes that can amplify the negative effects of sedentary behaviour, increasing risks of depression, anxiety, and social isolation. Likewise, individuals with chronic conditions or disabilities often experience additional barriers that contribute to prolonged sedentary time, further impacting their psychological and emotional well-being. Exploring key factors that mediate and moderate this association, the chapter also discusses targeted interventions designed to reduce sedentary behaviour and enhance quality of life.
