Resumen
Nasal polyposis (NP) is a condition characterized by the growth of benign masses in the nasal cavities, associated with chronic inflammation and edema. Recent studies suggest that viral infections may contribute to the development of NP by triggering Th2-skewed immune responses. This case reports a 61-year-old male who developed nasal polyps following SARS-CoV-2 infection. Despite no history of chronic allergic disease or rhinosinusitis, the patient experienced a dry cough and significant nasal obstruction and rhinorrhea, as well as other symptoms consistent with NP. Treatment with mometasone furoate nasal spray showed symptom improvement and polyp size reduction, confirmed by patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). This suggests that post-SARS-CoV-2 NP could be part of the complications seen in Long COVID. It highlights the need for further research to understand underlying mechanisms and optimize treatment strategies for Long COVID associated NP.
