LAS AYUDAS ESTATALES RECIBIDAS Y SU ASOCIACIÓN CON EL RENDIMIENTO OLÍMPICO DE LAS FEDERACIONES DEPORTIVAS BRASILEÑAS

Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze whether the investments made through the Agnelo-Piva Law to certain sports confederations have determined the achievement of good Olympic results. For this, it was taken as a central hypothesis that the greater the investment made, the greater the participation and the obtaining of Olympic medals. Methods: For the analysis, we used as a sample the summer Olympic sports confederations that received public funds through the Agnelo-Piva Law between 2002 and 2016. Results: When observing the relative value per medal in each specific modality, it can be identified that the relative value for an Olympic medal can oscillate up to 92% between different modalities and, furthermore, there can be a significant difference between the relative values per participation ($ 3,058,358.43), showing that Olympic participation could represent different costs in the same country. Conclusion: The central hypothesis of the study could be refuted; taking into consideration that the results do not occur through a perspective of cause and effect in the short time and that not always the confederations that receive the greatest amount of resources are also those that have the greatest number of Olympic results.
